A responsible retreat should not begin by asking how much you want the experience. It should begin by asking whether the experience is appropriate for you.

The ceremony itself is only one part of the experience. The weeks leading up to it and the months that follow can have just as much influence on how you approach the experience and what you do with it afterward.

The experience may feel finished. The process of understanding it usually is not. Integration is what happens when you begin making sense of the experience—and deciding what, if anything, belongs in your life afterward.

There is a reason people travel to Tulum for a retreat. It is not only the ceremonies, and it is not simply because the photographs look good. The jungle, the coast, the cenotes, and the slower pace can all contribute to the experience.
