The Sanctuary, where the jungle was asked politely to make room.
The Lumina Sanctuary is a private jungle retreat center near Tulum, created for transformational gatherings, immersive workshops, conscious events, and meaningful retreats. Surrounded by the natural beauty of the Mayan jungle, the property offers a purpose-built environment for visitors, facilitators, retreat leaders, and organizers looking for a setting that supports depth, connection, presence, and intentional community.
The property is comprised of two sections, two unique building styles. Villa Duendes is the original part of the property; the newer Sanctuary Domes section carries its own elemental system — each structure tied to a direction, a season, and a chakra. Together, these spaces create a unique environment that feels both grounded in nature and intentionally designed for gathering.
Beyond the accommodations, the Sanctuary includes ceremonial and gathering spaces, including The Center and the fire pit, where group practices, ceremonies, workshops, and shared experiences take place. Guests also have access to two swimming pools, providing space to cool off, relax, and connect with the nature.
More than simply a place to stay, the Sanctuary was created as a space for people to gather with purpose — surrounded by jungle, supported by thoughtful spaces, and given room to slow down, connect, and experience something together.
The Center
The Center is a multi-level gathering space designed to host a wide range of retreats, workshops, and special events and offers thoughtfully designed areas that support both intimate experiences and larger group gatherings.
On the ground level, we have a comfortable area for shared meals and steps away are the Temazcal, rain shower, firepit, and relaxing hammocks, creating a seamless flow between gathering and restoration. Convenient restrooms are also located on this level.
The Shala
This level features the Shala, a space for all types of mindful gatherings. The primary access point to the Air Dome is reached via a suspended swinging bridge from here, adding an architectural element to the experience. Enclosed to maintain comfort while preserving its connection to nature, the Shala is surrounded by lush jungle creating a serene and focused atmosphere. The space includes a washbasin and mirror for personal refreshment, a designated area with yoga mats and props.
Rooftop Pool
Ascending to the next level, you'll discover a space dedicated to rejuvenating your mind, body, and soul. At this elevation, you'll encounter both the tranquil Spa Room and a rooftop infinity pool. Within the Spa Room, indulge in personalized treatments, followed by a revitalizing soak in our eco-friendly pool, which uses chemical-free water. We regularly host a variety of skilled healers from different backgrounds. Feel free to inquire about the availability of other on-site experiences during your visit.
The Lookout
At the top of The Center, you’ll find yourself surrounded by the breathtaking view of the canopy of the Mayan jungle.
Back on the ground is the Temazcal, a an ancient Mesoamerican healing ceremony that has been used for centuries to support physical detoxification, emotional release, and spiritual renewal.
Earth Dome · Foundation
Located toward the north of the property, the Earth Dome is associated with winter and the root chakra. Its energy is centered on grounding, stability, and connection to the physical world. Guests may be offered practices such as temazcal, earth-focused yoga, massage, nature walks, or cave meditation — all chosen to encourage a deeper sense of grounding and presence.
Fire Dome · Transform
The Fire Dome faces south, associated with summer and the solar plexus chakra. Fire here means warmth, willpower and renewal, the same element that cooks food and forges tools, treated as the one that clears out what no longer serves. Guests staying here are typically offered a fire ceremony, an Ashtanga yoga class, or a ceremonial massage, chosen for guests who want to leave feeling ignited rather than settled.
Air Dome · Restore
Air Dome faces east, associated with spring and the heart chakra. Air is described as light, swift and expansive, the breath that carries clarity and connects mind to feeling. Guests staying here are typically offered a tantric breathwork class, an air-focused yoga session, or a sound healing journey, each one built around the idea that breathing fully is its own kind of medicine.
Water Dome · Flow
Water Dome faces west and is associated with autumn and the sacral chakra. Representing flow, adaptability, and renewal, this space invites guests to reconnect with movement and emotion. Experiences may include an ice bath, cenote visit, cacao ceremony, or Tibetan sound massage.
Ether House · Connect
Ether House stands apart from the other four, tied to no single direction or season: the space in which all the other elements arise and dissolve. Guests who stay here are usually looking for less stimulation, not more. Meditation, elemental massage, somatic nidra, or a Kundalini activation session are typically offered from this house, each one built around stillness rather than movement.
The Tree House
Built around a living tree, the Tree House, the accommodates 6 guests, was designed to work with the jungle rather than compete with it. Its spiral staircase and outward-reaching windows echo the natural movement of the surrounding trees, while the bedroom opens onto a sweeping 180-degree view of the jungle. Even the outdoor shower is positioned to frame the treetops rather than enclose you behind four walls.
The Tree House began simply, with open walls protected only by mosquito screens and the natural light of the jungle. Over time, it evolved into the finished space it is today without losing that original connection to its surroundings.
The Organic Dome
Inspired by the natural forms of shells, hives, and seeds, the Organic Dome uses curved geometry to create a spacious, efficient structure without relying on traditional straight lines. Its design reflects the same principles found throughout nature: strength, resilience, and making the most of limited materials. Built with durability in mind, the dome is designed to withstand Category 5 hurricane conditions, major flooding, and earthquakes. It offers a unique combination of organic architecture and serious structural resilience — a space designed to feel connected to nature while providing a strong sense of shelter and security.
La Cueva (The Cave)
We call this room The Cave because its natural wood and stone elements create a feeling of grounding and a deeper connection to Mother Earth. The space is designed to feel warm, earthy, and sheltered, while still keeping you connected to the surrounding jungle. The spacious bathroom continues that natural aesthetic with a circular stone soaking tub with a view of the jungle, complemented by a large mirror and modern lighting. Inside the room, a dedicated workspace and generous closet provide the comforts and practicality you need to unpack, settle in, and feel completely at home.
It’s a room for slowing down, getting grounded, and letting the jungle remain close — both inside and out.
The Luxury Dome
The Luxury Dome is justifiably named. You’ll find yourself deep in the jungle and in the lap of luxury in this exquisite dome. With a king-sized bed on the ground floor and a single sofa bed upstairs, this room can sleep up to 3 people. In the bedroom area, you have an ample-sized closet and a built-in desk and chair if you need a comfortable spot to use your laptop. The bathroom was constructed with gorgeous stone, and you’ll love the rain shower with a spectacular view of the jungle as you bathe. This dome has a second floor where you’ll find an outdoor seating area and inside, a sofa and kitchen.
Jungle Loft
You’ll fall in love with our Jungle Loft, filled with natural light from expansive windows that bring the jungle indoors. A ladder leads to a cozy loft with a double bed and air-conditioning for restful nights. The modern bathroom features natural wood accents and a rain shower, creating the feeling of dancing in the rain. Downstairs, inviting lounge sofas offer the perfect place to unwind after a day of jungle adventures. The Jungle Loft is conveniently located just steps from the pool and the community kitchen.
The Hippie & Hipster Dome
These domes are ideal for friends traveling together, offering a spacious layout with two double beds that comfortably sleep up to four guests. The high dome ceiling is playfully painted, adding a fun and creative vibe to the space. For warm jungle nights, the room is equipped with both a ceiling fan and air-conditioning. Why Lumina, Why Here
There are many places where this kind of work can happen. We chose this one intentionally. There is something about the jungle around Tulum that invites a different pace. The warmth, the sounds of the trees, the humidity, the coastline, the cenotes, and the sheer presence of the natural world create a sense of distance from everyday routines. You have fewer distractions and more opportunities to slow down, listen, and simply be present.
But the setting is only part of the story. The Yucatán Peninsula is a place with a deep cultural and spiritual history, and we believe that deserves to be approached with humility and respect. We don't see the jungle as a backdrop or a guarantee of a particular experience. Rather, it provides a natural environment in which reflection, rest, and meaningful personal work can unfold.
That philosophy also shapes how we run Lumina. We intentionally keep our retreats small, so there is time to actually get to know the people who come here. Preparation isn't rushed. Questions have space to be asked. Support is personal. And the experience doesn't end when the ceremony does.
For us, Lumina is about bringing together people, place, tradition, and thoughtful care in a way that feels genuine—not packaged or impersonal.
