What is Bufo?
Bufo, commonly associated with the Sonoran Desert toad (Incilius alvarius), refers to a preparation containing 5-MeO-DMT, a naturally occurring psychedelic compound. When used in ceremony, it is typically administered by inhalation and produces effects that can begin within seconds and last for a relatively short period.
Unlike Ayahuasca, a Bufo ceremony at Lumina is held one-to-one, allowing the practitioner to remain fully present throughout the experience. The intensity and brevity of the experience are precisely why preparation, trust, and careful guidance matter.
Respecting the Medicine and Its Origins
The modern use of 5-MeO-DMT from toad secretion does not have the same documented continuous ceremonial lineage as many traditional plant medicines. Its contemporary practice developed largely in the 20th century and has since taken different forms. At Lumina, we approach it with respect for the substance, the people who work with it, and the responsibilities that come with holding such an intense experience.

Priyananda Shaktipat
Priyananda began his spiritual journey in India and brings more than 35 years of experience in holistic practices including yoga, meditation, Ayurveda, tantra, and shamanic traditions. He is the creator of Conscious Touch Therapy and Kundalini Activation and has extensive experience working with traditional plant medicine ceremonies across Latin America, including Indigenous communities in Venezuela, Colombia, and Mexico.
Kala Shakti
Kala Shakti has more than 10 years of experience guiding personal growth and wellbeing through yoga, meditation, bodywork, and ancestral practices. A yoga and meditation teacher and bodywork therapist, she focuses much of her work on helping women reconnect with their sensuality, vitality, and inner strength. She is also a facilitator of mushroom, Ayahuasca, peyote, and San Pedro ceremonies.

Can I do Bufo and Ayahuasca on the same trip?
No. They are screened and scheduled separately by design and are never combined in the same trip.
